Oakhelm-demo 2006

ok,i said no new posts for a while but today i got some free time for this: I woke up this morning and the day was cold and the sky was full of dark clouds. After a while it stared snowing and it still does, it seems winter has come back so here is a appropriate soundtrack while sitting by the window and watching the snowflakes dancing on the wind.
Portland scene has offered many great crust/hardcore bands, also some great acts of atmospheric black metal poped up from time to time from the crust armies: Oakhelm is one of the bringers of sorrow and sadness, they are a pagan-folk black metal act including in their ranks former members of Fall of the Bastards and Pete Jay of Assuck and Wormwood.
This demo was recorded in 2006 and consists of two tracks about eight minutes long each. Music wise they deliver black metal with acoustic parts, folk elements and epic riffs with some melodies here and there, vocals are clear, still rough tough and lyrics are influenced by the "Celtic Book of the Dead".
if you are into melodic, epic black metal in the vein of Agalloch, Wolves in the Throne Room etc, then this is ok for your taste, apart from this, Oakhelm released "Betwixt and Between" full length in 2007 on Forest Moon Productions

Wastelander-st demo 2007

This is a journey of mutant creatures into the barren wasteland of a plague apocalypse:Wastelander formed in 2007 in Lansing, Michigan, USA by former members of brutal metal acts such as Harbinger and Summon and this is their eight track demo recorded the same year.
The demo begins with a narrative, its the introduction to genocide, destruction and plague all over the earth, there are sound effects between the tracks, fitting nicely and making the demo a kind of concept story. Music wise this is a blending of crust and black metal with both sides balancing in a nice way. When i first listened it, the use a drum machine sounded a bit annoying but later there wasn't any problem to my taste, they managed to it handle it and is very precise. Maybe it was my prejudice about drum machine use, who knows but i think human drumming would make the whole thing much better. The sound quality is good, punk riffs overcome in some tracks while metal overpowers in others, the vocals are rough but in some tracks are clear and less brutal (check "Mindsweeper" and "Wastelander"),"Triaged" is an acoustic song with spoken word and "Transmission failure" is the outro that ends the apocalypse.
The demo as cd was self released by the band and there is a tape version released by Zombie Fetus Records, In 2008 Bermuda Mohawk Production released it in 500 copies of 7" format (probably some of the tracks because the whole demo lasts 22 minutes), also the same year the band released their first full length "Wardrive". According to their myspace there are plans for a split ep

Fall Into Oblivion-st demo 2006

Lets take a break with something different and far from the usual crust/ D-Beat/ whatever brutal stuff you have met here: Fall Into Olbivion is a metal band coming from Kalmar, Sweden, and by saying metal i mean a blending of melodic metal with influences basically from Gothic and many other metal sub-genres. They describe their band as "Melodic metal band with female vocals on the "rougher" side. Lots of riffing and solos, very guitar-based. Some trashier influences. Some of the melodies sound very melancholic and haunting. There are a lot of different influences (gothic, trash, black, death, power, heavy etc.) coming from each member and that can be heard in the music".
i guess this gives a picture of the whole thing..
The demo was recorded and selfreleased in 2006, it delivers the four tracks you can listen in their myspace. This is their only recorded material till now. so, take a break, relax, pass through the threshold and fall into oblivion...

Exocet-Warsyndrome demo cd 2004

Orange County, California has offered some great acts of noise such as Armistice, Phobia and others and here is one of them: Exocet were from Santa Anna, Pomona, i know only a few about them and that's thanks to Sean's post in Damaging Noise: They had a couple of demos plus some tracks in compilations, The tracks in their myspace deliver a blending of brutal crustcore in the vein of Swedish kang crustcore,(one track was in this compilation i made last summer). This is one of their early days demos, it was recorded in 2004 and brings five tracks and eleven minutes of excellent Swedish hardcore that stands close to dis- stuff of Shitlickers (a change of drummer transformed them into a brutal crust band in their later stuff),they called quits in 2007.
